The journey of the Olympic flame for the Milan Cortina 2026 Winter Olympics, dubbed "The Greatest Journey," is a symbolic event that will cross all of Italy, involving local communities and celebrating the Olympic spirit. Starting on Nov. 26, 2025 from Olympia, Greece, the route will touch all 110 Italian provinces, covering about 12,000 km in 63 days, concluding on Feb. 6, 2026 at Milan's San Siro Stadium during the opening ceremony of the Games .
Greece: The Lighting and Passing of the Torch
- November 26, 2025: Lighting the flame in Olympia, Greece, using the traditional parabolic mirror.
- December 4, 2025: Torch passing ceremony in Athens.
Italy: The Great Journey
The trip to Italy begins on December 6, 2025 and travels through all regions and provinces, with significant stops in several cities.
- Rome (Dec. 6): Welcoming the torch to the Quirinal Palace.
- Naples (Dec. 23): Christmas Stage.
- Bari (Dec. 31): New Year's Eve Celebration.
- Cortina d'Ampezzo (Jan. 26, 2026): Commemoration of the 70th anniversary of the 1956 Winter Olympic Games.
- Milan (February 6, 2026): Final arrival at San Siro Stadium for the opening ceremony.
Regional and Local Stages
- Emilia-Romagna: From January 5 to 16, 2026, the torchlight will touch Rimini, Bologna, Ferrara, Parma and Piacenza .
- Italian Alps: In January 2026, the route will run through Liguria, Piedmont and Aosta Valley, with stops in Genoa, Cuneo, Turin and Aosta
The Torchbearers
They will be 10.001 torchbearers who will carry the torch along the route, selected through a public call for entries. Each torchbearer will represent a unique story, helping to unite Italy under the banner of Olympic values.
