Terni ignites Olympic passion: flame lights up Italy's green heart

On the third day of its historic journey to Milan Cortina 2026, the Olympic torch will arrive in the heart of Umbria: Terni, a city of iron, water and the beating heart of sports and culture, becomes the scene of a symbolic moment of great impact. After the start in Rome and the second stop in Viterbo, Dec. 8 marks a new step in the journey of the Olympic relay which will touch more than 1,500 Italian municipalities.

A day of steel, culture and identity

At 7:30 a.m., the flashlight lit in Olympia and arrived in Italy on Dec. 6, starts from the historic Marmore Falls, one of the territory's most powerful natural symbols. The route continues through the city center, through the streets of People's Course, Tacitus Square and theFausto Amphitheater, before reaching in the afternoon Republic Square, where a public ceremony is held with musical performances and readings inspired by Olympic values.

In this Umbrian stage, the following were selected about 80 torchbearers, each of whom ran an average of 200 meters. Among them:

The sustainable flashlight: symbol of the future

As in all stages, the flashlight in Terni was accompanied by a strong component green. Made of recycled aluminum, it has a core at bio-LPG and is recharged up to 10 times, ensuring an environmentally friendly journey. In addition, to further reduce emissions, the entire logistical transportation of the relay is relying on electric vehicles provided by official sponsors.

Goal: to unite community, culture and sports

The event in Terni is not just an Olympic celebration, but a real moment of city cohesion. Temporary exhibitions, sports workshops for children, and meetings with former athletes were organized throughout the weekend. A special initiative also involved local artisans, with the display of mini art flashlights made from reclaimed materials and inspired by the city's history.

Umbria welcomes the fire of the Games After Terni, the torch will continue its journey to Perugia, later touching on other Umbrian villages such as Spoleto, Foligno and Gubbio. The message accompanying the flashlight - "Light, Encounter, Rebirth." - blends with the spirit of these places, showing that every city has a story to tell through the universal language of sports.
