Siena is preparing to experience an extraordinary day. On December 10, 2025, the city of the Palio will host one of the most evocative and meaningful stages of the Olympic Torch relay ahead of the Milan Cortina 2026 Winter Games. An event that promises to intertwine sport, identity, sustainability and culture in a picture-postcard setting.
A stage laden with symbols: the flame passes through Siena
When the Torch arrives within the walls of Siena, lit as per tradition in ancient Olympia on Nov. 26, the city will already be ready to celebrate. Decked out in the colors of the 17 Contrade, accompanied by drummers, standard bearers and schoolchildren, Siena will be transformed into a living mosaic of emotion.
The route will touch some of the most iconic places:
- Scheduled departure 8 a.m. from the "Artemio Franchi" Municipal Stadium.
- The walk will continue through Porta Camollia, the symbolic entrance to the city of the "free and strong."
- Along Via Banchi di Sopra and Via di Città, the flashlight will parade past historic buildings, Gothic cathedrals and centuries-old stores.
- In Piazza del Campo, the beating heart of the Palio, an initial celebratory moment is planned, with the Contrade and institutions in attendance.
- Finally, the flame will reach Cathedral Square, where the ceremonial brazier will be lit in a scenic setting of lights, choirs and performances.
Torchbearers chosen from the heart of the city
It will be a special relay: about 60 torchbearers will pass the baton in 200-250-meter stretches. But each one will carry meaning:
- Young Sienese athletes, a symbol of the city's sports future.
- Local volunteers, chosen through a national call for applications that drew more than 30,000 applications.
- Representatives of the Contrade, each carrying millennia-old stories.
- Former Olympians and Paralympians born or raised in Tuscany, witnesses to the values of Olympism.
- The final torchbearer, whose name is being kept confidential, will have the honor of lighting the brazier in the spiritual heart of the city.
- Culture, sports and sustainability come together
The passage of the Torch to Siena will not only be a sporting celebration, but also a moment of appreciation of the area and reflection on environmental issues:
- The flashlight, made from recycled aluminum, will be powered by bio-LPG, and can be recharged up to 10 times.
- All vehicles supporting the Olympic caravan will be hybrid or electric, respecting the urban landscape and artistic heritage.
- At the Santa Maria della Scala Museum Complex there will be a temporary exhibition entitled. "Olympism and cultural identity", open to students and families.
Siena starring in an Olympic dream
On December 10, 2025, Siena will not only be a city crossed, but an authentic capital of Olympic values. The torch will not only light up streets and monuments: it will warm hearts, ignite the pride of a community and send a powerful message to the world.
Because every passing of the flashlight is a story, and in Siena that story will be written with the light of tradition and the momentum of the future.
