Agrigento, Dec. 16, 2025 After the excitement of Palermo, the journey of the Milan Cortina 2026 Olympic Flame continues to one of the most fascinating and history-laden cities in the Mediterranean: Agrigento. Here, amidst millennia-old vestiges and panoramas that combine sea and archaeology, the flashlight will stop in a unique setting, continuing its journey to northern Italy ahead of the inaugural ceremony on February 6, 2026 at the San Siro Stadium.

A journey through history and myth

The Agrigento relay will run through iconic places in the city, with a scheduled start from the Valley of the Temples, a UNESCO site and icon of Doric architecture. The flame, carried from hand to hand by torchbearers, will travel through the streets leading to the historic center, between Via Atenea, Baroque squares and vantage points from which to admire the Mediterranean. The arrival will be accompanied by cultural and musical events designed to celebrate the meeting of sports and cultural heritage.

The protagonists

Selected torchbearers will include:

  • Sicilian athletes who have made national sports history.
  • Volunteers and citizens who have distinguished themselves through their social commitment.
  • Representatives of institutions and well-known faces of culture.

Each of them will walk about 200 meters, turning their stretch into a tale of passion, identity and unity.

Agrigento for living

The stop will also be an opportunity to discover or rediscover the wonders of the city:

  • What to see: in addition to the Valley of the Temples, the Kolymbethra Garden, the Cathedral of St. Gerlando, the Monastery of the Holy Spirit, and the picturesque Rabato district.
  • What to eat: there will be no shortage of tastings of typical products such as Sicilian cannoli, pasta with sardines, St. Agatha's minnows and fish couscous.
  • What to do: take part in guided night tours among the illuminated temples, enjoy outdoor concerts, and stroll among local craft stalls.

A bridge between the past and the future

The passing of the Flame to Agrigento will not only be a sporting event, but a moment of connection between different eras: from the splendor of ancient Akragas to the contemporaneity of a city that is alive and projected toward the future. A sign that the Olympic spirit, with its values of peace, respect and brotherhood, finds fertile ground wherever there are communities ready to welcome it.
