Cortina 2026: The Queen of the Dolomites Reborn for the Olympics.

In the heart of the Dolomites, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, Cortina d'Ampezzo is preparing to shine once again in the international spotlight. After hosting the 1956 Winter Olympic Games, the "Queen of the Dolomites" is ready to write a new page in its history with Milan-Cortina 2026.

The Return of the Bob: The Cortina Sliding Centre

One of the most anticipated symbols of Cortina's Olympic revival is the Cortina Sliding Centre, the new facility intended for bobsled, skeleton and luge competitions. Built on the route of the historic Eugenio Monti track, it will be one of the few such tracks in Western Europe.

The runway, about 1,500 meters long, was redesigned according to the most advanced safety and sustainability standards. Despite the environmental debates, the project has been confirmed and is a strategic investment for the sports and tourism revitalization of the area.

Curling at the Olympic Ice Stadium

Lo Olympic Ice Stadium, an iconic structure built for the '56 Games, has been completely renovated to host curling competitions. The renovation preserved the original architectural identity while integrating modern facilities, new grandstands and accessible spaces for Paralympic athletes.

During the Paralympics, the stadium will also host the wheelchair curling tournament, becoming a symbol of sports inclusion.

Alpine Skiing in the Tofane: The Olimpia Slope

The legendary Tofane will be the setting for the women's alpine ski races. The Olimpia slope, among the most technical on the international circuit, has been upgraded to FIS standards, with new snowmaking and safety facilities. Cortina has already tested its capabilities by hosting the World Ski Championships in 2021, proving it is ready for the Olympic challenge.

Infrastructure and Hospitality

Cortina is not limited to sports facilities: numerous hotels, roads, and public services have been modernized. The plan calls for a new sustainable management of tourism, with a focus on green mobility, thanks to electric shuttles and enhanced rail connections with the Veneto and South Tyrol.

During the Games, a temporary Olympic village, designed to blend into the landscape and easily repurposed after the event.

A Model Mountain Olympiad

Milan-Cortina 2026 has chosen Cortina as a model of sustainability in the Alps: 93% of the races will take place in existing or renovated facilities, reducing environmental impact. The works carried out are designed not just for two weeks of sports, but for the future of the mountain and local communities.

Cortina Between History and the Future

Cortina is not just an Olympic venue: it is a bridge between past and future, between the glory of 1956 and the challenge of 2026. Its renovated facilities, legendary slopes and innate elegance will be the setting for one of the world's most anticipated events. And, as always, it will be the mountains that take center stage.
