On Dec. 13, 2025, the city of Nuoro will become the protagonist of the journey of the Milan Cortina 2026 Olympic Torch, after the Tuscan stop in Livorno and before continuing on to Cagliari. The symbolic flame will stop in a land steeped in Sardinian art, traditions and identity pride.
Nuoro between Barbagia and Sardinian identity
Located in the heart of Barbagia, Nuoro is a treasure chest of culture: its presence in the torch route represents a bridge between Sardinia and the rest of Italy. A hometown of writers, poets and artists, Nuoro will know how to transform the passing of the flashlight into a moment of collective identity.
The urban relay route
Here are the planned milestones:
- Flashlight arrival in the morning of Dec. 13
- Walk along Via Tirso, then through Piazza Roma, Corso Umberto, Piazza Eleonora d'Arborea, to the finish line in Piazza Sisinnio (or other central square)
- Closing event with brazier lighting, folk performances, traditional music and community
Torchbearers will include about a dozen local athletes, volunteers, students and representatives of Sardinian cultural associations. Each step will represent a celebration of belonging and social participation.
Atmosphere between art, sports and tradition
Nuoro will experience a day of popular festivities: performances of traditional music and dances such as tenor singing, corners on local sports such as rugby and athletics, and narrative paths on the connection between the city and the Winter Games. Not only entertainment: information booths on Milan Cortina 2026, volunteering and sustainability will be set up.
The green aspect of the Olympic flashlight
The "Essential" flashlight, symbol of the 2026 edition, combines design and sustainability: made of recycled materials, powered by bio-LPG and rechargeable up to 10 times. The entire route promotes soft mobility, with pedestrian zones and guaranteed accessibility for all spectators.
Next steps after Nuoro
The following day, Dec. 14, the torch will continue its journey to Cagliari, passing through Oristano before its final landing in Sardinia. This confirms the presence of the entire journey in the major Italian islands, in a continuity that unites territory, identity and sport.
